CHILD’S PLAY

Like a monkey on my back, it quietly sat with a bemused grin

Eyes dancing with devilish delight at the thought of another piggyback ride

His silence – a rarity  – is a welcome respite from his playful flashcards of a face still cherished, drawn with maniacal glee every second

It’s only a game he says with child-like innocence to the stoic stillness permeating through the air

Switching modus operandi, the cards are shelved and he throws the dice across

He goes up the ladder advancing to the end with a skater’s speed

His stony playmate never moving a square

He prods and stabs the past words of love with a madman’s rhythmic pacing into her scarred soul

Dredging up emotions and cavalierly bandying them against her wilted frame

“Let’s play again! Oh, I’m Pain by the way,” he shouts with mocking joviality

“I surrender” was the faint reply
