FOOL

She knew something was amiss
when skepticism draped over her
and she didn’t cringe in disagreement.
Like a fool throwing caution to the wind
she was letting the chips fall as they please.
Happenstance was beyond her control
what she wanted was not within her reach
so cynicism was free to lounge on her couch
walk side by side with her
piggyback and
sling his arm on her shoulder.
Let her fall into the abyss of pessimism
and never claw her way back to the light.
