DILEMMA

Honesty should have prevailed

But instead she answered, “Yup, we’re good”

Although a tiny voice inside her was screaming the opposite

Self-preservation was at work – she’s learnt her lesson well

Baring her soul a decade or so ago

Led to scars that still throbbed as if newly inflicted

Amidst the walls and layers of denial

The truth bubbled hotly to the surface:

To receive and reject her love in the same breath

Was too much to bear despite the passing of time

A second chance was what she’d been asking the universe

That fell on deaf ears

It’s a catch-22:

To leave is to bare her tattered heart

To stay is to suffer the endless lesions of misguided arrows
